Why Won’t My Broken Heart Heal?

I recently read a question from a fellow Facebooker asking how to cope with a broken heart. She explained that it all started at a very young age in her own home; a place where she was supposed to have been safe.

The abuse led to a life filled with anger, imprisonment, divorce, losing four children, institutionalized in psychiatric hospitals and back to living at home where it all began, with people who were supposed to keep her safe.

As I read her story I couldn’t help remembering my own painful past, albeit very different from hers but nonetheless painful. Her biggest obstacle in all of this is getting over the anger; which in my opinion is a byproduct of all she’s encountered.

My response to her:

Dear sweet Melanie. The only way that you will be able to recover is through the power of the Holy Spirit. Ask Jesus to heal your heart, to give you the grace to forgive those who have caused those deep wounds in your soul.

Hebrews 4:16 “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” It is His grace that empowers us to forgive what many would deem the unforgivable. And it is only through the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit that those wounds can be healed. Psalms 147:3 “God heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.”

Spend time daily in His word and in worship. If you truly want to be healed you will have to commit to walking daily with the Lord. I know…I have been experiencing healing in my mind soul and know that it is because of Him.❤

Amen and so certain it is only by God’s grace and mercy that we are forgiven and healed from our past and present hurts.
